Ramadan Treat

I have been seeing a lot of pancake-looking patties on 5th Ave - both in and out of the stores. Anyone eat them before? Are they for Iftar? I saw them on the street being sold w/ containers of a brownish looking liquid. Maybe gravy? ANyone ever eat it? It looks good.

It's a sweet syrup infused with rose water. The pancakes are usually stuffed with something, ( fruit - cheese - nuts, I suppose it varies from person to person and regions). My boss is a Muslim from Bangladesh and she brought some in with cheese and fruit - I think the fruit was mango - I'll ask her. I don't have a sweet tooth at all, so it wasn't my thing but the office raved how delicious they were.

Did you try them? Were they good? My boss said it wasn't mango she brought it, but apricots and said that was not in any way traditional - just her preference.

I just bought some Freekeh - It's a green wheat popular in Levantine, Arabian Peninsula, Palestinian and Egyptian cuisine, but also in North African and other neighboring cuisines. I made some last night but didn't eat it yet. I made it to stuff into tomatoes with spinach and onions for tonight's dinner.
