Vegas-style dining experience in the Ridge

The glitz of the Las Vegas strip has made it to the Ridge.

According to Twenty3 Supper Club co-owner Anthony Di Maio, the hope is to bring a new kind of dining experience to the neighborhood.

"A lot of these restaurants around here, you walk in and it's a dead atmosphere," Di Maio said. "We think Bay Ridge deserves more than that."

Referencing Las Vegas establishments Fix at the Bellagio and STK at the Cosmopolitan as inspiration for the culinary venture, Di Maio cites atmosphere as the critical element that places those restaurants above the rest.

"A reason for their success was their ability to combine nightlife and dining," he said.

I see lots of fat Italians, that a refreshing change from the normal Bayridge clientele.

Why do I get the feeling that an installment of Mob Wives will be shot there?

At any rate, I wish them luck. Unfortunately I have zero desire to go to Vegas but there are lots that do.

Yes fat is the first thing that comes to mind looking at that photo.

this place looked corny and garish when I walked by a few days ago. They've got this awful "waterfall" thing at the bar.
Just seems like they are trying too hard - their aesthetic reminds me of a cool manhattan restaurant 10 years ago.

Also, that obnoxious "club" music on the website is reason enough for me not to try them. Who adds music to their website anymore???

yes it was Austin's steakhouse. And when walking by the new place it didn't look all that different to me, but maybe it's cause the clientele looked the same. I haven't been inside so I didn't see the waterfall at the bar that 86er mentioned; those big Italian guys may have blocked my view. ;)

Something about that location just doesn't mesh with Las Vegas glitz.

Has anyone ever been to one of the Russian nightclubs in Brighton Beach? Now those places and clubbers really are glitzy.

I'd have to get my tight grey jeans and faux fur collared jacket out of storage for that.

That's not what I saw the time I went. People were dressed like they were going to a wedding, well not a wedding, maybe the MTV music awards. You get the picture.

Add in the fact that the folks who reviewed it have a whopping 1 and 2 reviews total.

I've seen varied businesses (not in BR) that have dozens, even 100+, deliriously happy total-soundalike reviews done by one-shot usernames ... maybe two-shot, since they'll return to re-rave.

My brother had an issue with his business on Yelp. His competition gave poor reviews on his page and glowing ones on their own. They reported the offending "reviewers" and just asked that Yelp do a quick check of the IP addresses. They found they were all from two places removed them.

Glad that Yelp was able to identify and remove the negative reviews. People suck.
I have never personally asked anyone to review us on Yelp but when I sometimes check our reviews there was one person I did not personally and did not even know they reviewed us, but I have seen someone, don't know who they are that take personal issues with someone and give bad reviews, that really irks me. I like Yelp, cause they send me weekly reports on how many times our business was viewed, how often people went from yelp to our website, etc. and that's kinda neat. we have never advertised with them but starting in Feb. we are doing a drink special if you mention Yelp when you come to L*

Citysearch isn't as on-top-of-it as yelp is. I've seen whole vendettas go on there, and-or regular repeated wacko trashings by the obviously-same person; and their "best of" ratings have a very dubious basis.

Yelp is good in ways, bad in others. People are far likelier to complain than to compliment. It's just human nature. The dirty part is the Yelp salespeople who offer sponsorships to businesses in exchange for a little creative removal of bad reviews while propping up the good ones.

Went to dinner here recently, and I didn't realize til we got there that they have a big selection of small plates. So we decided not to order entrees and to instead get a few appetizers to share. We chose 4 items from the small plates menu; all were very good but my favorite was the mac & cheese bites! The calamari & shrimp dish was the favorite of the person I was with, but it was a little too spicy for me (had a jalapeno aioli). The filet mignon skewers were very good too, I just wish they'd give you more of them. The service was excellent; props to our waitress allison who was very friendly.

I'm glad we went early though, because at 9pm as we were finishing, a group came in that was seated at the next table that was what I was afraid would be the type of scene in this place -- the typical brooklyn guidos, a table of three loud & obnoxious couples (the girls being the loud & obnoxious ones, lol). So I'd recommend checking out Twenty3 Supper Club for a special occasion dinner (too pricey to go frequently), but I'd suggest going on a weeknight or early if it's the weekend.

I don't recall the price, but it's part of the small plates section of the menu. They were great since they weren't greasy/heavy; it was panko-crusted and served with a little cherry tomato on top of each one.
